LSm10 Activators

LSm10, also known as Like-Sm Protein 10 or LSM10, is a component of the LSm (Like-Sm) protein complex, which is involved in various aspects of RNA metabolism, particularly RNA splicing and degradation. The LSm complex is highly conserved across eukaryotes and plays a crucial role in maintaining the integrity and functionality of RNA molecules within the cell.LSm10 is a key player in the cytoplasmic LSm1-7 complex, which is involved in mRNA degradation. This complex interacts with the 3' untranslated region (3' UTR) of messenger RNAs (mRNAs) and participates in the removal of the mRNA's protective cap structure, which initiates the degradation process. By facilitating mRNA decay, LSm10 contributes to the regulation of gene expression and the removal of aberrant or unnecessary transcripts.Moreover, LSm10 is associated with RNA quality control mechanisms. It is involved in the recognition and degradation of aberrant RNAs, including those with premature stop codons or other defects, inhibiting the translation of potentially harmful or nonfunctional proteins.

Additionally, LSm10 has been implicated in the biogenesis and quality control of small nuclear RNAs (snRNAs), which are essential components of the spliceosome, a complex responsible for RNA splicing. Proper snRNA processing and function are essential for accurate pre-mRNA splicing, ensuring the correct assembly of mature transcripts.Understanding the role of LSm10 in RNA metabolism is critical for unraveling the complexities of gene expression regulation and maintaining cellular homeostasis.
