MP68 Activators

MP68 activators encompass a variety of chemical entities that, through their action on specific cellular signaling pathways, lead to the functional increase in MP68 activity. Agents that raise intracellular cAMP levels, such as those that directly stimulate adenylyl cyclase or those that are analogs of cAMP, enhance MP68 activity by engaging with cAMP-dependent pathways. Similarly, beta-adrenergic agonists contribute to this rise in cAMP, possibly leading to the activation of MP68 within these signaling cascades. The modulation of intracellular calcium is another avenue through which MP68 activity can be influenced; calcium ionophores and agents that stimulate calcium influx into the cell can activate calcium-dependent pathways that in turn affect the activity of MP68. Furthermore, the use of agents that activate protein kinase C suggests that phosphorylation events within certain pathways can modulate MP68 activity, as can alterations in phosphorylation states induced by inhibitors of protein phosphatases.

Additional mechanisms by which the activity of MP68 may be increased include the inhibition of phosphodiesterases, leading to sustained cAMP levels and consequent activation of MP68 through related pathways. Activation of AMP-activated protein kinase also suggests a link to energy homeostasis mechanisms that could influence MP68 activity. Precursors to cellular cofactors, such as NAD+, may indirectly activate MP68 through sirtuin-mediated pathways, while selective agonists of certain receptors that raise cAMP levels indicate a receptor-mediated route to MP68 activation.
