Dipeptidyl peptidase 7 (DPP7), also known as quiescent cell proline dipeptidase (QPP), is an enzyme that belongs to the family of serine proteases. It is distinct from other dipeptidyl peptidases in that it cleaves dipeptides from the N-terminus of polypeptides without a preference for proline in the penultimate position. DPP7 is widely expressed across different tissues, including the immune system, where it plays a role in lymphocyte activation and proliferation.
The enzyme is implicated in the metabolism of various bioactive peptides, influencing physiological processes such as pain sensation, immune response, and possibly blood pressure regulation. DPP7's activity is important for the maintenance of cellular homeostasis, particularly in the degradation of intracellular peptides during protein turnover.Mutations or altered expression of DPP7 have been associated with certain pathological conditions, although the full extent of its involvement in disease states is not fully understood. As a protease, DPP7 is a target for intervention; inhibitors of DPP7 could be used to modulate its activity in various diseases, including cancer and immune disorders.
