POTE18 Activators

POTE ankyrin domain family member 18 (POTE18) is a protein encoded by the POTE18 gene located within a cluster of POTE paralogs on chromosome 2. The POTE gene family is characterized by its expression predominantly in reproductive tissues, such as the testis and ovary, and in various cancers. POTE18, like its family members, is presumed to have roles in the processes of cell growth and division due to its expression profile.

The protein structure of POTE18 is predicted to contain ankyrin repeats, a common protein-protein interaction motif found in various types of proteins. These ankyrin repeats are involved in mediating interactions with other proteins and are crucial for a wide range of cellular functions, including signaling, cell cycle control, and the regulation of transcription and translation. Given the presence of these domains, POTE18 is thought to participate in similar interactions, although the specific partners and biological pathways it impacts remain to be elucidated.In cancer biology, the expression of POTE genes is of interest due to their cancer-testis antigen status, meaning they are silent in most normal tissues except for the testes, but are activated in various cancers.
