Furthermore, compounds such as Bisphenol A and the phytoestrogen genistein bind to SHBG, potentially inducing conformational shifts that can activate the protein's ligand-binding activity. Another phytoestrogen, coumestrol, shows a similar interaction, suggesting that these compounds can enhance SHBG's functionality in hormone binding. Non-steroidal environmental estrogens like triclosan and methoxychlor also exhibit the capacity to bind and activate SHBG, suggesting that SHBG is responsive to a variety of structurally diverse compounds. Additional chemicals, including daidzein, propylparaben, 4-Nonylphenol, and 4-tert-Octylphenol, can interact with SHBG in a manner that leads to the activation of the protein's hormone-binding ability. These interactions emphasize the role of SHBG as a central mediator in the regulation of hormone levels within the circulatory system, responding to both endogenous and exogenous chemical signals by adjusting its binding capacity and thus influencing the transport and bioavailability of sex hormones.
