Snrp116 Activators

Snrp116, known scientifically as U11/U12 small nuclear ribonucleoprotein 116 kDa, is an integral component of the spliceosome, the complex molecular machine responsible for RNA splicing. RNA splicing is a crucial cellular process that edits precursor messenger RNA (pre-mRNA) by removing introns (non-coding regions) and joining exons (coding sequences), thereby generating mature mRNA molecules ready for translation into proteins.

This protein is specifically involved in the splicing of minor class introns, which, although less common than major class introns, are essential for the proper expression of certain genes. Snrp116 is part of the U12-type spliceosome, a variant spliceosome that recognizes and excises a subset of introns with distinct consensus sequences.Given its role in the splicing mechanism, Snrp116 is fundamental to gene expression and the regulation of protein diversity. Proper function of Snrp116 and the U12-type spliceosome is vital for the health of the cell, and defects in this splicing machinery can lead to a variety of diseases, including retinitis pigmentosa and other genetic disorders.
