SFI1 Activators

SFI1, or spindle assembly checkpoint factor 1, is a protein that in humans is encoded by the SFI1 gene. This protein plays a critical role in the spindle checkpoint function, which ensures that all chromosomes are properly attached to the spindle microtubules before the cell enters anaphase during cell division. This helps prevent errors in chromosome segregation, which can lead to genetic instability and diseases. The protein itself is localized to the centrosome in interphase cells and to the poles of the mitotic spindle during cell division.

Centrin is a calcium-binding protein that is a member of the EF-hand superfamily, named for a helix-loop-helix structural domain found in a large family of calcium-binding proteins. Centrins play crucial roles in various cellular processes, including centrosome duplication, DNA repair, and cilia or flagella function. In the context of the SFI1 protein, centrin binding is critical for the proper function of the spindle checkpoint. Any molecule that acts as an activator for SFI1 or centrin would likely be involved in the regulation of these proteins' activities or their interactions with other cellular components.
