Histidine Decarboxylase Phosphorylase Domain Containing 2A (HISPPD2A) is a protein that in humans is encoded by the HISPPD2A gene. This protein belongs to a larger family of proteins known as histidine decarboxylases, enzymes responsible for the conversion of histidine to histamine, a critical mediator of various biological processes including immune response, gastric acid secretion, and neurotransmission.
However, the HISPPD2A protein is not a classical histidine decarboxylase and doesn't seem to have histidine decarboxylase activity. Instead, it is involved in the tRNA wobble uridine modification, a process that ensures the correct translation of the genetic code into proteins. Specifically, HISPPD2A is part of a heterotrimeric complex with proteins TRMT9B and WDR4, and this complex is responsible for the modification of the wobble uridine in tRNA.The HISPPD2A gene is ubiquitously expressed in human tissues, which underscores its fundamental role in protein synthesis in all cells. Further research may shed light on the potential connections between HISPPD2A and various biological processes or diseases. In summary, HISPPD2A is a protein involved in the critical process of tRNA modification, which ensures the correct translation of the genetic code into proteins.
