Glucocorticoid modulatory element-binding protein 1 (GMEB-1) is a protein that in humans is encoded by the GMEB1 gene. It is also known as Protein ARIP-3 (Activator of cAMP-responsive element modulator (CREM) in testis).GMEB-1 belongs to the KDWK family of transcription factors, which are characterized by the presence of a unique DNA-binding domain known as the KDWK domain. This domain allows these proteins to bind to specific sequences of DNA and influence gene expression.
GMEB-1 is known to bind to DNA sequences containing glucocorticoid modulatory elements (GMEs), hence its name. By binding to these sequences, GMEB-1 can modulate the transcriptional activity of associated genes, particularly in response to glucocorticoid hormones.Glucocorticoids are a type of steroid hormone that play key roles in various physiological processes, including inflammatory responses, immune function, and stress responses. By influencing the activity of genes responsive to these hormones, GMEB-1 can affect these processes.Ongoing research will help to better understand the roles of GMEB-1 in human biology and its potential implications for health and disease.
