CTF8 Activators

CTF8, or Chromosome Transmission Fidelity Factor 8, is a protein that in humans is encoded by the CHTF8 gene. It's a component of the CTF18-RFC (Replication Factor C) complex, which plays a crucial role in sister chromatid cohesion and DNA replication. The sister chromatid cohesion process is essential during cell division, ensuring that each new cell receives an accurate copy of the genome. The CTF18-RFC complex, including CTF8, helps load the cohesin complex onto DNA, facilitating the cohesion of sister chromatids.

CTF8 is also involved in the DNA damage response. It contributes to maintaining genome stability by promoting efficient DNA repair. When DNA damage occurs, the CTF18-RFC complex helps facilitate the DNA repair machinery's access to the damaged site.Further, CTF8 and its associated CTF18-RFC complex are critical for the S phase checkpoint. This is a control mechanism that ensures DNA replication is complete before the cell enters mitosis, thus inhibiting the propagation of errors to daughter cells. While the precise mechanisms of CTF8 function continue to be studied, it's clear that it plays a vital role in maintaining genomic integrity. Alterations in CTF8 or other components of the CTF18-RFC complex could potentially lead to chromosomal abnormalities, contributing to various diseases, including cancer.
