RNase L Antibody (2E9.2G5) is a mouse monoclonal IgG1 antibody that detects RNase L in human samples through applications such as western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), and immunohistochemistry. RNase L plays a crucial role in the antiviral and antiproliferative activities of interferons by encoding a component of the interferon-regulated 2-5A system, which is essential for the degradation of viral RNA and the regulation of cellular growth. RNase L (2E9.2G5) antibody enhances detection of protein responses to interferon treatment, including elevated levels of RNase L and synthetases that generate 5-prime-triphosphorylated, 2-prime,5-prime-oligoadenylates (2-5A) from ATP. The 2-5A system is integral to the immune response, and defects in the RNase L gene can lead to compromised immunity against viral infections and increased risk of cancer, particularly prostate cancer, where mutations have been linked to hereditary predisposition. Anti-RNase L antibody (2E9.2G5) serves as an invaluable tool for researchers studying viral defense and cancer biology mechanisms, providing insights into functional dynamics of this critical protein.

Can RNase L (2E9.2G5): sc-23955 monoclonal antibody be used to stain formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded (FFPE) tissue sections?

Asked by: jenniferc
Thank you for your question. Yes, RNase L (2E9.2G5): sc-23955 has been validated for use in IHC with paraffin-embedded sections. We recommend performing antigen retrieval with sodium citrate buffer (pH 6) and heat. The full protocol can be found here: https://www.scbt.com/scbt/resources/protocols/immunoperoxidase-staining

Dear Santa Cruz,  I use this antibody to detect endogenous RNase L. Activated RNase L is dimerized and it can show two bands but in case of this antibody is it possible to see difference between activated and non activated RNase L? Thank you!

Asked by: Idee
Thank you for your question. The exact epitope recognized by this mouse monoclonal antibody, RNase L (2E9.2G5): sc-23955, has not been determined. Thus, it would have to be determined experimentally if the antibody can distinguish between activated and non-activated RNase L. This experiment has not been performed by Santa Cruz Biotechnology.
