RDS Antibody (E-5) is a mouse monoclonal IgG2b kappa light chain antibody that detects RDS protein of mouse, rat, and human origin by western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). RDS (E-5) antibody is available in both non-conjugated and various conjugated forms, including agarose, horseradish peroxidase (HRP), phycoerythrin (PE), fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC), and multiple Alexa Fluor® conjugates. RDS, known as retinal degeneration slow, plays a crucial role in the structure and function of photoreceptor cells, specifically in the outer segment discs where RDS is localized. This membrane-associated glycoprotein is essential for the stabilization and compaction of these discs, which are vital for phototransduction—the process by which light is converted into electrical signals in the retina. Proper functioning of RDS is critical, as defects can lead to severe retinal degenerative diseases, including retinitis pigmentosa, a condition characterized by progressive vision loss. RDS gene, which encodes this important protein, is located on human chromosome 6p21.2-12.3-cen and exhibits a high degree of homology (92%) with its murine counterpart, underscoring its significance in both mouse models and human pathology.
