RDS Inhibitors

RDS Inhibitors are a set of chemical compounds that can decrease the functional activity of RDS through specific signaling pathways or biological processes that it is directly involved in. Mucolytic agents like Acetylcysteine and mucoactive drugs like Ambroxol could inhibit the functional activity of RDS by disrupting the mucus layer where surfactant proteins function or by altering the mucus environment, respectively, causing a decrease in their activity.

Phosphodiesterase inhibitors like Sildenafil can inhibit the degradation of cGMP, leading to smooth muscle relaxation and vasodilation. This could decrease the surfactant proteins' activity by altering the lung's vascular tone and perfusion, indirectly affecting RDS. Non-selective beta blockers like Propranolol and calcium channel blockers like Verapamil could affect the functional activity of surfactant proteins in RDS by altering the perfusion and oxygenation of the lungs. Glucocorticoids like Dexamethasone can influence lung maturation and surfactant production, leading to a decrease in the activity of surfactant proteins involved in RDS with excessive or prolonged use. NSAIDs like Indomethacin and loop diuretics like Furosemide can influence inflammation and fluid exchange in the lungs or fluidbalance, affecting the functional activity of surfactant proteins by altering the alveolar environment in RDS.
