SEE ALSO...

Cytokeratin 5/8 Antibody (C50) is a mouse monoclonal IgG1 antibody that detects Cytokeratin 5/8 in human samples through various applications including western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), immunohistochemistry with paraffin-embedded sections (IHCP), flow cytometry (FCM), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Cytokeratin 5/8 plays a vital role in maintaining the structural integrity and mechanical resilience of epithelial cells, which is crucial for the proper functioning of tissues that experience significant stress, such as the skin and respiratory tract. Cytokeratin 5/8 is primarily located in the cytoplasm of epithelial cells, where anti-Cytokeratin 5/8 antibody (C50) detects intermediate filament networks providing support and stability. Cytokeratin 5/8 presence is particularly important in epithelial differentiation and tissue repair, helping to protect cells from mechanical injury and contributing to the overall architecture of epithelial tissues. Alterations in Cytokeratin 5/8 expression can serve as valuable biomarkers for various pathological conditions, including cancers, where expression patterns can indicate tumor differentiation status. Cytokeratin 5 is notably expressed in normal basal cells, and mutations in the gene encoding Cytokeratin 5 (KRT5) are associated with the autosomal dominant disorder epidermolysis bullosa, highlighting this protein′s significance in both health and disease.

Can Cytokeratin 5/8 (C50): sc-8021 monoclonal antibody be used in IF or IHC with mouse tissue or cells? Will there be non-specific staining?

Asked by: cjMara
Thank you for your inquiry. The use of mouse monoclonal antibodies with mouse samples is very common and typically poses no problem. To eliminate any potential cross-reactivity of an anti-mouse secondary detection reagent, Cytokeratin 5/8 (C50): sc-8021 is available in a variety of direct conjugations, such as HRP, PE, FITC and AlexaFluors.
