CD71 Antibody (DF1513) is a mouse monoclonal IgG1 antibody that detects CD71 in human samples through applications such as immunofluorescence (IF), immunohistochemistry with paraffin-embedded sections (IHCP), and flow cytometry (FCM). CD71, also known as the transferrin receptor (TFR), is a type II membrane glycoprotein that forms a disulfide-linked homodimer, consisting of two identical subunits. Anti-CD71 antibody (DF1513) plays a crucial role in studying iron homeostasis, where CD71 binds to transferrin, a serum iron-transport protein, and facilitates cellular uptake of iron via receptor-mediated endocytosis. CD71 expression is typically high in proliferating cells, reticulocytes, and erythroid precursors, while remaining absent in resting leukocytes but can be upregulated upon activation of lymphocytes, monocytes, and macrophages. CD71 is also present on most dividing cells and brain endothelium, highlighting its importance in various physiological processes. The interaction of CD71 with transferrin is vital for maintaining iron levels in the body, as iron is essential for numerous cellular functions, including oxygen transport and DNA synthesis. Additionally, mutations in the TFR2 gene, which encodes a second transferrin receptor, can lead to hereditary hemochromatosis type III, an iron overload disorder, underscoring the significance of CD71 in both health and disease. CD71 monoclonal antibody (DF1513) serves as an invaluable tool for researchers studying iron metabolism and related disorders.

Can CD71 (DF1513): sc-7327 monoclonal antibody be used in IF or IHC with mouse tissue or cells? Will there be non-specific staining?

Asked by: DefinitelyNotMatt
Thank you for your inquiry. The use of mouse monoclonal antibodies with mouse samples is very common and typically poses no problem. To eliminate any potential cross-reactivity of an anti-mouse secondary detection reagent, CD71 (DF1513): sc-7327 is available in a variety of direct conjugations, such as HRP, PE, FITC and AlexaFluors.
