SEE ALSO...

CD71 Antibody (3B8 2A1) is a mouse monoclonal IgG1 kappa light chain antibody that detects CD71 protein of human origin by western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), and flow cytometry (FCM). CD71 (3B8 2A1) antibody is available in both non-conjugated and various conjugated forms, including agarose, horseradish peroxidase (HRP), phycoerythrin (PE), fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC), and multiple Alexa Fluor® conjugates. CD71 protein, also known as transferrin receptor (TFR), is a type II membrane glycoprotein that plays a crucial role in iron homeostasis by mediating cellular uptake of transferrin-bound iron through receptor-mediated endocytosis. This process is vital for maintaining adequate iron levels, which are essential for various cellular functions, including oxygen transport and DNA synthesis. CD71 is typically expressed at high levels on proliferating cells, reticulocytes, and erythroid precursors, while CD71 expression is upregulated in activated lymphocytes, monocytes, and macrophages. CD71 is also present on most dividing cells and on brain endothelium, highlighting CD71′s importance in both hematopoiesis and neurobiology. Additionally, a second transferrin receptor, TFR2, also facilitates uptake of transferrin-bound iron and is predominantly expressed in liver, where mutations in TFR2 gene can lead to hereditary hemochromatosis type III, an iron overload disorder.
