SSH2 Activators

SSH2 activators are chemicals that can activate the SSH2 protein, either directly or indirectly. Most of these compounds work by modulating intracellular signaling pathways, particularly those involving cAMP and calcium. Specifically, these chemicals can increase intracellular cAMP levels or calcium levels, leading to the activation of SSH2.

SSH2 is activated when it is dephosphorylated. Many of the chemicals listed here influence SSH2 activation by modulating the balance of phosphorylation and dephosphorylation. They either increase the activity of phosphatases, like calcineurin, that dephosphorylate SSH2 or decrease the phosphorylation of SSH2. For example, forskolin and ATP can increase cAMP levels, which can inhibit the phosphorylation of SSH2, leading to its activation. Similarly, calcium chloride and phosphatidylinositol 4,5-bisphosphate can increase intracellular calcium levels, which can activate calcineurin leading to the dephosphorylation and activation of SSH2. Other compounds, like isoproterenol, IBMX, rolipram, epinephrine, norepinephrine, dopamine, and adenosine, work by similar mechanisms - they increase cAMP levels through various means, leading to the activation of SSH2.
