Phosducin-Like 3 (PDCL3), also known as PhLP2, is a protein that is encoded by the PDCL3 gene in humans. This protein belongs to the phosducin-like protein family, which is involved in a variety of key cellular processes.PDCL3 is known to play an essential role in protein folding and assembly. It acts as a co-chaperone for the eukaryotic cytosolic chaperonin CCT (chaperonin containing TCP1) complex, which assists in the folding of actin and tubulin. These proteins are critical components of the cell's cytoskeleton, which provides structural support and plays a role in cell division and movement.
The PDCL3 protein is also involved in G-protein signaling. G-proteins are a family of proteins that transmit signals from outside the cell to the inside, activating various cellular processes. PDCL3 acts as a regulator for G-protein beta-gamma dimer formation, a crucial step in G-protein signaling. Moreover, PDCL3 has been found in the mitochondria, suggesting it might have a role in mitochondrial functions. However, this role is not well defined and requires further investigation.Mutations or dysfunction of PDCL3 could potentially lead to a variety of disorders due to its role in protein folding, G-protein signaling, and potentially mitochondrial function.
