MPHOSPH8 Activators

M-phase phosphoprotein 8 (MPP8) is a protein encoded by the MPP8 gene in humans. It's a member of the MPP (M-phase phosphoprotein) family and plays essential roles in cellular processes, particularly those associated with cell cycle progression and chromatin remodeling.MPP8 is known for its function as a component of a histone modification complex, which is involved in the regulation of gene expression. Specifically, it binds to histone H3 that is methylated at 'Lys-9' (H3K9me), a modification often associated with transcriptionally inactive regions of the genome. By binding to this modification, MPP8 aids in the recruitment of other proteins to these regions, leading to changes in chromatin structure and gene expression.

In addition to its role in gene regulation, recent studies suggest that MPP8 may be involved in DNA damage response. It has been shown to interact with proteins such as 53BP1, which is important for the repair of double-strand breaks in DNA.MPP8's role in these fundamental cellular processes suggests that it may be implicated in various disease states. For instance, alterations in the pathways regulated by MPP8 could contribute to cancer development and progression. Indeed, some studies have indicated that MPP8 is overexpressed in certain types of cancers, including breast cancer and prostate cancer. In summary, MPP8 is a versatile protein involved in the regulation of gene expression and DNA damage response. Its association with critical cellular processes and a link to disease states underscore its importance in cell biology and human health.
