eIF3δ Activators

eIF3δ is a subunit of the eukaryotic initiation factor 3 (eIF3) complex, which is pivotal in the initiation phase of mRNA translation. The eIF3 complex is the largest of the eIFs and is responsible for several key functions during the initiation of protein synthesis. It helps in the recruitment of the 40S ribosomal subunit to the 5' end of mRNA, aids in the scanning of mRNA for the start codon, and assists in the joining of the 60S ribosomal subunit to form the 80S initiation complex, thereby facilitating the start of polypeptide synthesis.

The δ subunit, specifically, is one of the multiple non-core subunits of the eIF3 complex, and while its exact role is not as well-characterized as some of the other subunits, it is believed to contribute to the structural stability and function of the eIF3 complex. The expression and activity of eIF3δ are crucial for the overall process of translation initiation, and thus for the regulation of protein synthesis, which is fundamental to cell growth, cycle progression, and response to cellular stress and nutrients.Alterations in the expression or function of eIF3δ can have significant implications for cellular homeostasis and have been associated with various diseases, including cancer. The eIF3 complex, including eIF3δ, is subject to regulation by various signaling pathways that respond to intracellular and extracellular cues, ensuring that protein synthesis is tightly controlled in accordance with the needs and conditions of the cell.
