Nuclear GTPase, germinal center associated, known as NGC (germinal center associated nuclear protein, or GANP), is a multifunctional protein encoded by the GANP gene. NGC plays a pivotal role in various nuclear processes, including mRNA export and immunoglobulin class switch recombination (CSR) in B cells. As a GTPase, NGC hydrolyzes guanosine triphosphate (GTP) to guanosine diphosphate (GDP), a reaction that provides the energy required for its functions within the nucleus.

Within the germinal centers of secondary lymphoid organs, NGC is particularly important for the maturation of B cells. It facilitates CSR, a process by which B cells switch the type of antibody they produce without altering the antibody specificity. This enables the immune system to generate antibodies with different effector functions, thereby enhancing the body's ability to combat pathogens. NGC is implicated in the mechanism by which B cells change the class of antibody they produce, such as switching from producing IgM to IgG antibodies, a key step in the adaptive immune response.Beyond its role in the immune system, NGC is also involved in the export of mature mRNA from the nucleus to the cytoplasm, ensuring that genetic information is accurately conveyed for protein synthesis. This function is critical for maintaining the integrity of gene expression and the proper functioning of cells.
