β-defensins are a family of antimicrobial peptides that are an integral component of the innate immune system. They provide early protection against a wide range of pathogens, including bacteria, fungi, and viruses. If "β-defensin 116" were a member of this family, it would be expected to possess similar features and functions.Typically, β-defensins are small cationic peptides that can disrupt microbial membranes due to their amphipathic nature.
