A1-c Inhibitors

A1-c Inhibitors are a class of compounds that inhibit the formation of advanced glycation end products (AGEs). AGEs are formed through a non-enzymatic reaction between reducing sugars and proteins, lipids, or nucleic acids. The accumulation of AGEs in the body is associated with aging and various age-related diseases, including diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and neurodegenerative disorders.

A1-c Inhibitors exert their effect by preventing or reducing the formation of AGEs. Some A1-c Inhibitors, such as aminoguanidine, act by trapping reactive carbonyl groups on sugars, thereby preventing their reaction with proteins and other molecules. Other A1-c Inhibitors, such as pyridoxamine and benfotiamine, act by inhibiting the formation of reactive dicarbonyl compounds, which are intermediates in the formation of AGEs. By inhibiting the formation of AGEs, A1-c Inhibitors may help to slow down the aging process and reduce the risk of age-related diseases. These compounds have been studied in various animal models and have shown promise in preventing or mitigating the development of age-related complications. However, more research is needed to determine the long-term effects and safety of A1-c Inhibitors in humans.
