Vimentin Antibody (RV203) is a mouse monoclonal IgG1 kappa light chain antibody raised against cytoskeletal vimentin extracts from bovine eye lens tissue, an intermediate filament protein that serves as a crucial marker for cells of mesenchymal origin. Vimentin mouse monoclonal antibody (RV203) recognizes an epitope within the vimentin immunogen sequence, providing researchers with a powerful tool for identifying cell types and studying cellular processes. The molecular structure of vimentin reveals a sophisticated organization: vimentin forms two-chain, α-helical, coiled-coil molecules that arrange themselves on an imperfect helical lattice, creating a robust framework that maintains cellular integrity, structure, and stress response capabilities. Vimentin shows widespread expression in mesenchymal cells, including fibroblasts, endothelial cells, and macrophages. In various neoplasms such as melanoma and breast carcinoma, vimentin frequently appears co-expressed with other intermediate filament proteins, including cytokeratins. This co-expression pattern makes vimentin particularly valuable for identifying the origins of metastatic tumors and distinguishing between different cell types within tissues. Vimentin plays a central role in epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT), a critical process in cancer progression and wound healing. During EMT, cells undergo significant changes in their cytoskeletal organization, with vimentin expression serving as a key indicator of this transition. Through these various functions and expression patterns, vimentin serves as an essential marker for studying cell migration, invasion, and metastasis in cancer research. Vimentin (RV203) antibody enables researchers to investigate both normal cellular processes and pathological conditions related to cell motility, differentiation, and tumorigenesis.

Can Vimentin (RV203): sc-58899 monoclonal antibody be used to stain formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded (FFPE) tissue sections?

Asked by: Professor Griffin
Thank you for your question. Yes, Vimentin (RV203): sc-58899 has been validated for use in IHC with paraffin-embedded sections. We recommend performing antigen retrieval with sodium citrate buffer (pH 6) and heat. The full protocol can be found here: https://www.scbt.com/scbt/resources/protocols/immunoperoxidase-staining
