VAP-1 Antibody (D-1) is a mouse monoclonal IgG1 antibody that detects VAP-1 in mouse, rat, and human samples through applications such as western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). VAP-1, or vascular adhesion protein-1, plays a crucial role in the immune response by facilitating lymphocyte adhesion to vascular endothelium, which is essential for immune cell migration from bloodstream to lymphoid tissues and inflammation sites. VAP-1 is a type II transmembrane sialoglycoprotein characterized by a single transmembrane domain and multiple N- and O-glycosylation sites within its extracellular domain, which are vital for function. VAP-1 predominantly exists as a homodimer in vivo and serves dual functions as both a monoamine oxidase and an adhesion molecule. Proper glycosylation of VAP-1 enables lymphocyte adhesion under inflammatory conditions, thereby acting as an adhesion receptor supporting lymphocyte recirculation. While VAP-1 is expressed in various smooth muscle cells, VAP-1 does not facilitate lymphocyte binding in these cells but is involved in primary amine deamination. Soluble forms of VAP-1 are present in circulation, with elevated levels observed in patients suffering from inflammatory liver diseases, highlighting VAP-1′s potential as a biomarker for inflammation.
