Transgelin Antibody (C-11) is a mouse monoclonal IgG1 antibody that detects transgelin in mouse, rat, and human samples through applications such as western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Transgelin, also known as SM22a, is a crucial protein predominantly expressed in smooth muscle cells, where transgelin plays a significant role in regulating cytoskeletal structure by binding to actin. This interaction is vital as transgelin facilitates the formation of actin fibers, which are essential for maintaining cellular integrity and facilitating smooth muscle contraction. The binding of transgelin to actin occurs at a ratio of 1:6 actin monomers, leading to the gelling of actin fibers within minutes, which is critical for the dynamic remodeling of the cytoskeleton during various physiological processes. Additionally, the human transgelin gene (TAGLN), located on chromosome 11q23.3, encodes a 201 amino acid protein that contains nuclear factor-binding motifs, indicating transgelin′s involvement in transcriptional regulation within smooth muscle cells. Notably, transgelin expression is downregulated in several transformed cell lines, suggesting that a decrease in transgelin levels may serve as an early biomarker for cellular transformation, making transgelin an important target for research in cancer biology and smooth muscle-related diseases.
