transgelin-2 Antibody (G-5) is a mouse monoclonal IgG2b antibody that detects transgelin-2 in mouse, rat, and human samples through applications such as western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Transgelin-2, also known as SM22α homolog, is a crucial protein expressed predominantly in smooth muscle cells and peritoneal B-1 cells, playing a significant role in smooth muscle contraction and cellular signaling regulation. The human transgelin-2 gene, designated TAGLN2, is located on chromosome 1q23.1-q25 and encodes a 199 amino acid protein featuring a calponin-like repeat and a calponin-homology domain, essential for actin filament interaction. This interaction is vital as transgelin-2 binds to actin at a ratio of 1:6 actin monomers, leading to actin fiber gelling within minutes, influencing cytoskeletal dynamics and cellular morphology. Notably, transgelin-2 expression is downregulated in various transformed cell lines, suggesting reduced levels may serve as an early biomarker for cellular transformation and tumorigenesis. Transgelin-2′s ability to modulate actin dynamics underscores its importance in maintaining smooth muscle function and potential implications in vascular diseases and cancer progression.
