Selenoprotein M Antibody (C-3) is a mouse monoclonal IgG1 kappa light chain antibody that detects Selenoprotein M of mouse, rat, and human origin by western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Anti-Selenoprotein M antibody (C-3) is available in both non-conjugated and various conjugated forms, including agarose, horseradish peroxidase (HRP), phycoerythrin (PE), fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC), and multiple Alexa Fluor® conjugates. Selenoprotein M, also known as SELM or SEPM, is a 145 amino acid protein that plays a crucial role in cellular redox homeostasis, acting as a thiol-disulfide oxidoreductase during disulfide bond formation, which is vital for proper protein folding and function. Selenoprotein M contains a selenocysteine residue at its active site, highlighting selenium′s importance as an essential trace element in human health. Selenoprotein M is predominantly expressed in the brain, with moderate to low levels found in various tissues such as the uterus, kidney, placenta, lung, stomach, heart, skin, testis, and small intestine. Selenoprotein M localizes to perinuclear structures of the endoplasmic reticulum and Golgi apparatus, suggesting a significant role in protein processing and trafficking. Selenoprotein M has been implicated in the modulation of oxidative stress and has been associated with neurodegenerative diseases, including Alzheimer′s disease, making this protein valuable for research in both basic and clinical settings.
