SAP 49 is a crucial component of the U2 small nuclear ribonucleoprotein (snRNP) complex, which is essential for the assembly of the spliceosome, a vital molecular machine responsible for the splicing of pre-mRNA. SAP 49′s primary function involves facilitating the interaction between U2 snRNP and the branch site of pre-mRNA, a process that is critical for accurate gene expression and regulation.
