OSC Antibody (G-6) is a mouse monoclonal IgG1 antibody that detects OSC (Lanosterol synthase) in mouse, rat, and human samples through applications such as western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). OSC is a 732 amino acid protein that plays a pivotal role in the biosynthesis of cholesterol, vitamin D, and steroid hormones by catalyzing the conversion of (S)-2,3 oxidosqualene to lanosterol, the first step in the terpene metabolism pathway. Lanosterol, a tetracyclic triterpenoid, is essential for the synthesis of all steroids, making OSC crucial for maintaining proper cholesterol levels and overall steroid function in the body. OSC′s importance is underscored by a high degree of conservation across species, with human OSC sharing 83% homology with its rat counterpart, indicating a fundamental role in cellular processes. Multiple isoforms of OSC, resulting from alternative splicing events, suggests a complex regulation of function, which may have implications in various physiological and pathological contexts. Anti-OSC antibody (G-6) is an invaluable tool for researchers studying cholesterol metabolism and steroidogenesis, providing insights into molecular mechanisms underlying these critical biological processes.
