OSC Antibody (D-6) is a mouse monoclonal IgG1 kappa light chain antibody that detects OSC protein of mouse, rat, and human origin by western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). OSC (D-6) antibody is available in both non-conjugated and various conjugated forms, including agarose, horseradish peroxidase (HRP), phycoerythrin (PE), fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC), and multiple Alexa Fluor® conjugates. OSC protein, also known as lanosterol synthase, is a 732 amino acid enzyme that plays a pivotal role in the biosynthesis of cholesterol, vitamin D, and steroid hormones by catalyzing the conversion of (S)-2,3 oxidosqualene to lanosterol, a crucial precursor in steroid synthesis. OSC contains four PFTB repeats and belongs to the terpene cyclase family, which is essential for proper folding and activity. Structural integrity of OSC is vital for catalytic efficiency, and any alterations can lead to disruptions in cholesterol metabolism, impacting overall steroid hormone production. Human OSC exhibits 83% homology with rat counterpart, indicating a conserved functional role across species, and multiple isoforms arise from alternative splicing, further emphasizing the complexity and regulatory mechanisms governing OSC activity.
