NDUFA5, also known as Complex I-13kD-B, is a crucial component of the mitochondrial electron transport chain, specifically as one of the 45 subunits of complex I, which plays a vital role in oxidative phosphorylation. NDUFA5 facilitates the transfer of electrons from NADH to ubiquinone, ultimately contributing to ATP synthesis. Deficiencies in complex I can lead to severe metabolic disorders, affecting multiple organ systems, including the heart, liver, and kidneys.
