    SEE ALSO...

Megsin Antibody (H-10) is a mouse monoclonal IgG1 kappa light chain antibody that detects megsin protein of mouse, rat, and human origin by western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Anti-megsin antibody (H-10) is available in both non-conjugated and various conjugated forms, including agarose, horseradish peroxidase (HRP), phycoerythrin (PE), fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC), and multiple Alexa Fluor® conjugates. Megsin, also known as SerpinB7 and TP55, is a 380 amino acid cytoplasmic protein predominantly expressed in mesangial cells, which are crucial for maintaining glomerular structure and function. As a member of the serpin family, megsin acts as a serine protease inhibitor, with the ability to potentially inactivate matrix metalloproteinases MMP-2 and MMP-9, as well as plasmin, all of which are key players in the degradation of the extracellular matrix. The regulation of these proteases is vital, as their activity can significantly impact tissue remodeling and repair processes. Notably, overexpression of megsin leads to an increase in the number of mesangial cells, resulting in progressive mesangial matrix expansion and immune complex deposition, which suggests that megsin plays a significant role in the pathology of various nephropathies by influencing mesangial cell function and renal structure.
