MDR1 Antibody (UIC2) is a mouse monoclonal IgG2a kappa light chain antibody engineered to target human MDR1. MDR1 monoclonal antibody (UIC2) is optimized for use in immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), immunohistochemistry with paraffin-embedded sections (IHCP), and flow cytometry (FCM) applications, demonstrating robust reactivity with human tissues while exhibiting no cross-reactivity with mouse and rat tissues, thereby ensuring precise detection in human samples. MDR1, also referred to as ABCB1, P-GP, PGY1, ABC20, CD243, ENPAT, GP170, and p-170, is a critical member of the ATP-binding cassette (ABC) transporter family, predominantly located in the apical membrane of cells within key barriers such as the blood-brain barrier, liver, kidneys, and intestines. MDR1′s cellular localization is essential for its primary function as a drug-transport pump, actively effluxing a diverse range of chemotherapeutic agents and other xenobiotics out of cells. This activity plays a pivotal role in the development of multiple drug resistance (MDR) in cancer therapy, as MDR1 reduces intracellular concentration of therapeutic drugs, thereby diminishing their efficacy. MDR1 is integral to maintaining protective functions of the blood-brain barrier by preventing accumulation of potentially harmful substances in the brain, which is crucial for safeguarding neural tissue. Understanding and accurately detecting MDR1 is vital for researchers investigating mechanisms of drug resistance and for developing strategies to overcome therapeutic challenges in various diseases, including cancer and neurological disorders. Anti-MDR1 antibody (UIC2) facilitates detailed studies of MDR1′s cellular localization and function, making this tool indispensable for advancing research in pharmacology, oncology, and neurobiology by enabling precise analysis of drug transport dynamics and resistance mechanisms in human cells.

Can Mdr-1 (UIC2): sc-73354 monoclonal antibody be used in IF or IHC with mouse tissue or cells? Will there be non-specific staining?

Asked by: jerojero
Thank you for your inquiry. The use of mouse monoclonal antibodies with mouse samples is very common and typically poses no problem. To eliminate any potential cross-reactivity of an anti-mouse secondary detection reagent, Mdr-1 (UIC2): sc-73354 is available in a variety of direct conjugations, such as HRP, PE, FITC and AlexaFluors.
