LIP5 Antibody (C-1) is a mouse monoclonal IgG2a antibody that detects LIP5 in mouse, rat, and human samples through applications such as western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). LIP5, also known as LYST-interacting protein 5, VTA1, DRG1, SBP1, or My012, is a 307 amino acid protein that belongs to the VTA1 family and plays a crucial role in sorting membrane proteins, including lysosomal enzymes and growth factor receptors, for lysosomal degradation via the endosomal multivesicular bodies (MVB) pathway. The proper functioning of LIP5 is vital for maintaining cellular homeostasis and regulating protein degradation, which is essential for processes such as cell signaling and nutrient recycling. Located in the cytoplasm and associated with both endosomal and peripheral membranes, LIP5 is predominantly found in the brain, liver, heart, and kidney. RNA interference studies have shown that depletion of LIP5 significantly impairs the budding of human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1), highlighting its importance in viral pathogenesis. LIP5 interacts with several key proteins, including CHMP1B, CHMP2A, CHMP5, VPS4B, and KIAA0174 (IST1), which are involved in the endosomal sorting complex required for transport (ESCRT) machinery, underscoring its role in cellular trafficking and membrane dynamics.
