SEE ALSO...

GlyR β Antibody (D-8) is a mouse monoclonal IgG1 kappa light chain antibody that detects GlyR beta protein of mouse, rat, and human origin by western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). GlyR β (D-8) antibody is available in both non-conjugated and various conjugated forms, including agarose, horseradish peroxidase (HRP), phycoerythrin (PE), fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC), and multiple Alexa Fluor® conjugates. GlyR beta protein plays a crucial role in the central nervous system by mediating inhibitory neurotransmission through glycine receptors, which are essential for voluntary motor control and reflex responses. Glycine binds to these receptors located in the postsynaptic neuronal membranes, allowing for the regulation of chloride ion flow, which is vital for maintaining the balance of excitatory and inhibitory signals in the brain. The pentameric structure of GlyR consists of various subunits, including α1 through α4 and β, which together form a chloride-selective ion channel. The composition of these subunits shifts from α2 in the fetal central nervous system to α1 and β in adults, highlighting GlyR beta′s developmental significance. Fast potentiation of GlyR by intracellular calcium ions in regions such as the brainstem and midbrain underscores the importance of calcium in modulating glycinergic synapses, further emphasizing GlyR beta protein′s critical role in neurotransmission and synaptic plasticity.
