SEE ALSO...

Dystrophin Antibody (H-5) is a mouse monoclonal IgG2b kappa light chain antibody that detects dystrophin in mouse, rat, and human samples through applications such as western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), immunohistochemistry, and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Anti-dystrophin antibody (H-5) is available in both non-conjugated and various conjugated forms, including agarose, horseradish peroxidase (HRP), phycoerythrin (PE), fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC), and multiple Alexa Fluor® conjugates. Dystrophin plays a crucial role in the dystrophin-glycoprotein complex (DGC), which serves as a vital link between the actin cytoskeleton within muscle fibers and the extracellular matrix, thereby maintaining muscle integrity and function. The absence or mutation of dystrophin is a primary factor in the development of Duchenne (DMD) and Becker (BMD) muscular dystrophies, highlighting its importance in muscle health. The human dystrophin gene spans 2.4 megabases with over 80 exons, producing a 14 kb mRNA that is regulated by at least eight independent tissue-specific promoters and two polyadenylation sites. Additionally, dystrophin mRNA can undergo differential splicing, resulting in a variety of transcripts that encode different protein isoforms. Dystrophin constitutes approximately 0.002% of total striated muscle protein and is localized at triadic junctions in skeletal muscle, where dystrophin plays a significant role in calcium ion homeostasis and the transmission of force during muscle contraction.
