Dystrophin Antibody (3B7) is a mouse monoclonal IgG2a antibody that detects dystrophin in mouse, rat, and human samples through applications such as western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), and immunofluorescence (IF). Dystrophin plays a crucial role in maintaining the structural integrity of muscle fibers by linking the F-Actin cytoskeleton to the extracellular matrix at the cell membrane interface, forming the dystrophin-glycoprotein complex (DGC). This connection is vital for muscle function, as dystrophin helps to stabilize the muscle cell membrane during contraction and protects against injury. A deficiency in dystrophin is associated with severe muscle disorders, including Duchenne and Becker muscular dystrophies, highlighting dystrophin′s importance in muscle health. The human dystrophin gene is notably large, spanning 2.4 megabases with over 80 exons, and produces a 14 kb mRNA that can undergo differential splicing to generate various transcripts, each encoding different protein isoforms. Dystrophin is localized to triadic junctions in skeletal muscle, where dystrophin plays a significant role in calcium ion homeostasis and force transmission, making dystrophin essential for effective muscle contraction and overall muscle function. Anti-dystrophin antibody (3B7) serves as an invaluable tool for researchers studying muscular dystrophies and muscle biology, providing insights into the molecular mechanisms underlying these conditions.
