Cytokeratin 12 Antibody (E-8) is a mouse monoclonal IgG2b kappa light chain antibody that detects Cytokeratin 12 protein of mouse, rat, and human origin by western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Anti-Cytokeratin 12 antibody (E-8) is available in both non-conjugated and various conjugated forms, including agarose, horseradish peroxidase (HRP), phycoerythrin (PE), fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC), and multiple Alexa Fluor® conjugates. Cytokeratin 12 is a member of the cytokeratin family, which consists of a diverse group of intermediate filament proteins that are crucial for maintaining the structural integrity of epithelial cells. These proteins are expressed in pairs within keratinized and non-keratinized epithelial tissues, where they play a vital role in cellular differentiation and tissue specialization. Specifically, Cytokeratin 12 is predominantly found in the corneal epithelium, where Cytokeratin 12 works in conjunction with Cytokeratin 3 to provide essential structural support to the cornea, which is otherwise delicate and prone to damage. Proper functioning of Cytokeratin 12 is critical, as mutations in the human Cytokeratin 12 gene can lead to Meesmann′s corneal dystrophy, an autosomal dominant condition characterized by fragility of the corneal epithelium and the formation of intra-epithelial microcysts.
