COL10A1 Antibody (X-AC9) is a mouse monoclonal IgG1 kappa light chain antibody that detects Collagen α1 Type X of avian origin by immunofluorescence (IF), immunohistochemistry with paraffin-embedded sections (IHCP), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). COL10A1 (X-AC9) antibody is available in both non-conjugated and various conjugated forms, including agarose, horseradish peroxidase (HRP), phycoerythrin (PE), fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC), and multiple Alexa Fluor® conjugates. Collagen Type X plays a crucial role in the development and maintenance of hypertrophic chondrocytes within the growth plate of long bones, which is essential for proper endochondral ossification. Collagen Type X serves as a key structural component of normal articular cartilage in species such as humans, pigs, and newborn rats, while also becoming significant during pathological conditions like osteoarthritis, where COL10A1 is involved in the disruption of normal cartilage metabolism. Structurally, Collagen Type X is composed of three identical alpha 1(X) chains that form a triple-helical region, which is critical for stability and function, flanked by a short N-terminal sequence and a larger non-collagenous C-terminal (NC1) domain. Mutations in the COL10A1 gene, which encodes Collagen Type X, are linked to metaphyseal dysplasia type Schmid (SMCD) and other related disorders, characterized by symptoms such as short-limbed dwarfism and skeletal deformities.
