CD71 Antibody (T56/14) is a mouse monoclonal IgG1 antibody that detects CD71 in human samples through western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), and flow cytometry (FCM). CD71, also known as the transferrin receptor (TFR), is a type II membrane glycoprotein that plays a crucial role in iron homeostasis by facilitating cellular uptake of iron through receptor-mediated endocytosis. CD71 exists as a disulfide-linked homodimer, binding to two molecules of transferrin, which is essential for transporting iron to cells, particularly in proliferating cells, reticulocytes, and erythroid precursors. CD71 expression is typically high in these cells, while resting leukocytes do not express CD71; however, CD71 is upregulated upon activation of lymphocytes, monocytes, and macrophages, highlighting CD71′s importance in immune responses and cellular proliferation. CD71 is present on brain endothelium and is critical for maintaining iron levels in the central nervous system. CD71′s presence on dividing cells underscores CD71′s significance in various physiological processes, including erythropoiesis and immune function, making CD71 a valuable target for research and therapeutic applications. Anti-CD71 antibody (T56/14) is an essential tool for studying iron metabolism and related disorders, including hereditary hemochromatosis type III, which is linked to mutations in transferrin receptor genes.
