CBS Antibody (G-1) is a mouse monoclonal IgG2a antibody that detects cystathionine b-synthase (CBS) in mouse, rat, and human samples through applications such as western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). CBS is a crucial cytoplasmic protein predominantly expressed in the human liver and pancreas, with lower levels found in the heart and brain, where CBS plays a vital role in the transsulfuration pathway by catalyzing the conversion of homocysteine, a potentially harmful amino acid, into cystathionine using pyridoxal phosphate as a cofactor. This enzymatic reaction is essential for maintaining proper levels of homocysteine in the body, as elevated homocysteine is associated with various cardiovascular diseases and neurological disorders. The activity of CBS is allosterically regulated by adenosyl-methionine, highlighting the importance of metabolic control in preventing the detrimental effects of homocysteine accumulation. Deficiencies in CBS can lead to homocystinuria, a genetic disorder characterized by a range of serious symptoms, including arteriosclerosis, thrombosis, dislocated optic lenses, cognitive impairments, and skeletal abnormalities, underscoring CBS′s critical role in sulfur amino acid metabolism and overall health. Anti-CBS antibody (G-1) is an invaluable tool for researchers studying these pathways and their implications in disease.
