Calpastatin Antibody (PI-11) is a mouse monoclonal IgG1 kappa light chain antibody that detects Calpastatin protein of mouse, rat, and human origin by western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), and immunohistochemistry. Anti-Calpastatin antibody (PI-11) is available in both non-conjugated and various conjugated forms, including agarose, horseradish peroxidase (HRP), phycoerythrin (PE), fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC), and multiple Alexa Fluor® conjugates. Calpastatin plays a crucial role in regulating calpain activity, which is essential for various cellular processes such as cell cycle progression, apoptosis, and differentiation. By inhibiting calpain, Calpastatin prevents excessive proteolysis that could lead to cellular dysfunction and disease. Calpastatin is primarily located in the cytoplasm and interacts with calpain enzymes, which are calcium-dependent cysteine proteases involved in the cleavage of cytoskeletal and membrane proteins. This interaction maintains cellular integrity and function, particularly in processes like spermatogenesis and the acrosome reaction during fertilization. Additionally, Calpastatin exists in two forms—tissue type and erythrocyte type—resulting from alternative splicing and proteolytic processing, which allows for tissue-specific regulation of calpain activity.
