Calpastatin Antibody (A-1) is a mouse monoclonal IgG1 kappa light chain antibody that detects Calpastatin of human origin by western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), immunohistochemistry with paraffin-embedded sections (IHCP), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Anti-Calpastatin antibody (A-1) is available in both non-conjugated and various conjugated forms, including agarose, horseradish peroxidase (HRP), phycoerythrin (PE), fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC), and multiple Alexa Fluor® conjugates. Calpastatin plays a crucial role in regulating calpain activity, which is essential for various cellular processes such as cell cycle progression, apoptosis, and differentiation. By inhibiting calpain, Calpastatin prevents excessive proteolysis that could lead to cellular dysfunction and disease. Calpastatin is primarily located in the cytoplasm and is particularly important in tissues where calpain activity needs to be tightly controlled, such as in muscle and neuronal cells. The balance between calpain and Calpastatin is vital for maintaining cellular homeostasis, and dysregulation of this balance has been implicated in several pathological conditions, including neurodegenerative diseases and muscle disorders. Calpastatin exists in two isoforms, tissue type and erythrocyte type, which arise from alternative splicing and proteolytic processing, further highlighting diverse regulatory roles in different cellular contexts.
