ASL Antibody (B-1) is a mouse monoclonal IgG1 kappa light chain antibody that detects ASL protein of mouse, rat, and human origin by western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), immunohistochemistry, and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). ASL (B-1) antibody is available in both non-conjugated and various conjugated forms, including agarose, horseradish peroxidase (HRP), phycoerythrin (PE), fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC), and multiple Alexa Fluor® conjugates. ASL, or argininosuccinate lyase, is a critical enzyme in the urea cycle, primarily expressed in the liver, where ASL plays a vital role in detoxifying ammonia by catalyzing the hydrolytic cleavage of argininosuccinic acid into fumarate and arginine. This reaction not only facilitates the removal of excess nitrogen from the body but also contributes to the biosynthesis of arginine, an important amino acid involved in various physiological processes, including protein synthesis and nitric oxide production. ASL exists as a homotetramer in the cytoplasm, and ASL′s structural integrity is essential for catalytic function. Notably, ASL shares significant sequence homology with δ-crystallin, a protein found in the avian and reptilian eye lens, highlighting evolutionary importance. Mutations in the ASL gene can lead to argininosuccinic aciduria, a serious autosomal recessive disorder characterized by the accumulation of argininosuccinic acid in body fluids, resulting in severe health issues such as hyperammonemia, liver enlargement, and neurological impairments.
