AHSP Antibody (D-12) is a mouse monoclonal IgG1 kappa light chain antibody that detects AHSP of human origin by western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). AHSP Antibody (D-12) is available in both non-conjugated and various conjugated forms, including agarose, horseradish peroxidase (HRP), phycoerythrin (PE), fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC), and multiple Alexa Fluor® conjugates. The α-hemoglobin stabilizing protein (AHSP), also known as erythroid associated factor (ERAF), plays a crucial role in erythroid cell development by acting as a chaperone that prevents α-hemoglobin aggregation. This function is vital as AHSP protects free α-hemoglobin from precipitation, which can lead to cellular damage and ineffective erythropoiesis. AHSP forms a heterodimer specifically with free α-hemoglobin, but not with β-hemoglobin or hemoglobin A (α2-β2), ensuring selective stabilization of the α-chain during hemoglobin synthesis. Localized primarily in the cytoplasm, AHSP is expressed in blood and bone marrow, and AHSP expression is notably downregulated in transmissible spongiform encephalopathies (TSEs). Furthermore, AHSP may play a regulatory role in pathological conditions associated with α-hemoglobin excess, such as β-thalassemia, a hereditary disorder characterized by reduced production of normal adult hemoglobin due to a deficiency in β-globin chain synthesis.
