ACTH/CLIP Antibody (E-12) is a mouse monoclonal IgG2a kappa light chain antibody that specifically binds to an epitope mapping between amino acids 158-183 within an internal region of Pro-opiomelanocortin (POMC), also known as corticotropin-lipotropin. POMC is a polypeptide hormone precursor synthesized in the anterior pituitary gland and processed in secretory granules within corticotroph cells. This subcellular localization is crucial for the proper post-translational processing of POMC into multiple active peptides, including Adrenocorticotropic Hormone (ACTH) and Corticotropin-like Intermediate Peptide (CLIP). ACTH, also known as corticotropin, is a 39 amino acid peptide that stimulates cortisol secretion from the adrenal cortex, playing a vital role in stress response and metabolism. CLIP is a 21 amino acid neuropeptide secreted by corticotrope cells of the adenohypophysis, involved in various neurological functions. Mutations in the POMC gene can lead to POMC deficiency, characterized by red hair, adrenal insufficiency, and susceptibility to obesity. Anti-POMC antibody (E-12) reacts with POMC and its processed peptides ACTH and CLIP from mouse, rat, and human origins, and is validated for use in western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) applications.
