UTP23 Inhibitors

The "UTP23 small subunit processome component," commonly referred to as UTP23, is an essential protein component of the small subunit (SSU) processome, a large ribonucleoprotein complex necessary for the early stages of ribosomal biogenesis in eukaryotic cells. This protein is intricately involved in the maturation of the 18S rRNA, a fundamental constituent of the small 40S ribosomal subunit.

UTP23 works in concert with other proteins and snoRNAs within the SSU processome to orchestrate the processing and correct folding of pre-rRNA. The SSU processome is responsible for the intricate series of enzymatic cleavages, modifications, and structural rearrangements required to transform the precursor rRNA (pre-rRNA) into a mature rRNA molecule capable of participating in protein synthesis. The UTP23 protein interacts with other components of the SSU processome, such as U3 snoRNA, and is believed to assist in the recognition and elimination of the superfluous rRNA sequences that are present in the pre-rRNA transcript. This process is critical as it ensures the correct assembly of the rRNA into the ribosome's structure, thereby maintaining the fidelity of protein synthesis.
