UNC-13 Inhibitors

The proteins, channels, and pathways that contribute to synaptic vesicle exocytosis and neurotransmitter release are complex, intricate, and tightly interwoven. UNC-13, as a critical component of this machinery, is inevitably influenced by alterations or disturbances to any of these elements. UNC-13 inhibitors, such as Botulinum toxin and Tetanus toxin, target the SNARE complex and proteins, central players in synaptic vesicle fusion, thereby indirectly impacting UNC-13.

Others, like Lamotrigine and ω-Conotoxin GVIA, affect ion channels that play a role in initiating and modulating synaptic transmission, thereby altering the milieu in which UNC-13 operates. By affecting calcium dynamics, compounds like Ruthenium red, Dantrolene, and ω-Agatoxin IVA have the potential to influence UNC-13's calcium-dependent activities in vesicle priming.
