SEE ALSO...

CD71 Antibody (Ber-T9) is a mouse monoclonal IgG1 antibody that detects CD71 in human samples through immunofluorescence (IF) and flow cytometry (FCM) applications. CD71, also known as the transferrin receptor (TFR), is a type II membrane glycoprotein that plays a crucial role in iron homeostasis by facilitating cellular uptake of iron through receptor-mediated endocytosis. This protein exists as a disulfide-linked homodimer, composed of two identical subunits, and binds to transferrin, a serum iron-transport protein, allowing cells to acquire iron necessary for various biological processes, including hemoglobin synthesis and cellular respiration. CD71 is typically expressed at high levels on proliferating cells, reticulocytes, and erythroid precursors, while CD71 expression is upregulated in activated lymphocytes, monocytes, and macrophages, making CD71 a valuable marker for studying cell proliferation and activation. Additionally, CD71 is present on most dividing cells and brain endothelium, highlighting CD71′s importance in both hematopoiesis and neurobiology. CD71′s presence on these cell types underscores CD71′s significance in iron metabolism and potential implications in disorders related to iron overload, such as hereditary hemochromatosis type III, which is associated with mutations in the TFR2 gene. Anti-CD71 antibody (Ber-T9) is an essential tool for researchers investigating iron transport mechanisms and related pathologies.

Can CD71 (Ber-T9): sc-19675 monoclonal antibody be used in IF or IHC with mouse tissue or cells? Will there be non-specific staining?

Asked by: AbPolly
Thank you for your inquiry. The use of mouse monoclonal antibodies with mouse samples is very common and typically poses no problem. To eliminate any potential cross-reactivity of an anti-mouse secondary detection reagent, CD71 (Ber-T9): sc-19675 is available in a variety of direct conjugations, such as HRP, PE, FITC and AlexaFluors.
